Quark participants and global observables

چکیده

One of the challenges in relativistic heavy ion collisions is to measure and study the large number of particles produced in such reactions. Measurement of particle density and transverse energy density in rapidity is a convenient way to describe particle production in heavy ion collisions. The pseudorapidity density (dN/dη) and transverse energy pseudorapidity density (dET /dη) at mid-rapidity is found to increase with increase in centrality of the reaction at SPS and RHIC energies [1, 2, 3, 4]. This has been claimed to be understood using a simple geometrical picture of collision. At SPS energies, it was found that the particle production scales with the number of participating nucleons (NN−part).

Systematic studies of global observables by PHENIX

Systematic studies of global observables in different collision systems are indispensable for mapping the QCD phase diagram. Fluctuations in these quantities can provide fundamental information relevant for the phase transitions. The following global observables relevant to critical behavior are studied: the longitudinal density correlation, K to π and p to π fluctuations, and the constituent q...

Super-leading Logarithms in Gaps-between-jets

The resummation of large logarithms associated with wide angle soft gluon emissions has been investigated for the last 20 years. For certain observables the contributions from non-global logarithms 1 have to be taken into account. One of the simplest of these non-global observables is the ‘gaps-between-jets’ cross-section. This is the cross-section for producing a pair of high transverse moment...

Fixing of Cycle Slips in Dual-Frequency GPS Phase Observables using Discrete Wavelet Transforms

The occurrence of cycle slips is a major limiting factor for achievement of sub-decimeter accuracy in positioning with GPS (Global Positioning System). In the past, several authors introduced a method based on different combinations of GPS data together with Kalman filter to solve the problem of the cycle slips. In this paper the same philosophy is used but with discrete wavelet transforms. For...

A global fit of top quark effective theory to data

In this paper we present a global fit of beyond the Standard Model (BSM) dimension six operators relevant to the top quark sector to all currently available top production cross-section measurements, namely parton-level top-pair and single top production at the LHC and the Tevatron. Higher order QCD corrections are modelled using differential and global K-factors, and we use novel fast-fitting ...

Quark mass effects in QCD jets ∗

We present the calculation of the decay width of the Z-boson into three jets including complete quark mass effects to second order in the strong coupling constant. The study is done for different jet clustering algorithms such as EM, JADE, E and DURHAM. Because three-jet observables are very sensitive to the quark mass we consider the possibility of extracting the bottom quark mass from LEP dat...
